FamousWhy Editor: DVDx is a DVD backup software based on famous open source libraries. It allows you to convert DVD movies in high quality (S)Video CD, DivX or Windows Media files.
DVDx can copy/ convert your DVD to Video CD (VCD). While inexperienced users can select Video CD (MPEG1) output with one click, the advanced users can select the Video CD settings like buffer size, max rate and quantization matrix while complying with VCD 2.0 standards. You can even make eXtendedVCD (XVCD) and Compressed Video CD (CVCD) by modifying MPEG1 video bit rate, audio bit rate and video picture size.
DVDx can copy your DVD to Super VCD (SVCD). As in the case of converting to a VCD, the inexperienced users can select Super-VCD (MPEG2) output in one click and the experienced users can tune the SVCD settings. They can modify the buffer size, max rate and quantization matrix. DVDx allows you to create eXtended SuperVideoCD (XSVCD) by tuning MPEG2 video and audio bit rate and video picture size.
In both cases (converting to Video CD and converting to Super VCD) anamorphic quality can be kept, but the aspect can also be changed into pan and scan, zoomed, cropped and letter boxed.
You can use DVDx to copy the DVD to DivX. DVDx includes LAME MP3 audio encoder with a large panel of bit rate settings while recommended 192Kb/s 44.1kHz 16Bits Q3 is set as default for unexperimented users. DVDx supports 1 and 2-pass DivX/Xvid encoding. DivX video picture size is adjustable (7 sizes with 4 resolutions for each of them).

Your DVDs can be copied to Windows Media Video (WMV) format. Usually Windows Media files are even smaller than DivX files for same quality and very suitable for handheld device. WMV audio and video bit rates are adjustable.
DVDx allows you to preview a file before encoding. It was the very first DVD copy software to provide this option and at this moment DVDx is still the only software to provide complete video+audio+subtitle preview.
