Horses 2.0 Details

FamousWhy Editor:
Horses is an interesting puzzle game which successfully combines logical elements with strategy, thinking and some chess rules (pieces movement). The game title “Horses” is more than inspired as the entire pieces movement is based on chess rules (same horses movement rules applies here as well).

The idea behind Horses is quite interesting. A board (with various sizes) represents the playing field. Each player controls a set of "horses". Each horse is placed on a square and the entire table is filled up with these pieces, only one single square (in the middle) is free. Using the same chess horse movement rules, the player must turn the board "upside down". For example, all orange horses from the upper half should be moved to the lower half and all blue horses from the lower half must be placed in the upper half.

The game itself is not that complicate but the true challenge is to complete a Horses game using a minimum number of moves and beat the computer.
Based on board size, the minimum number of moves varies. For instance, for a 7 x 7 board, the typical number of moves is between 110 and 120 while for a 15 x 13 board, this number is between 990 and 1005. Now, who would play a game that requires over 1000 moves? Personally I find a 7 x 7 board more than enough but I'm sure there are people out there who will enjoy a huge game. A huge playing field involves more strategy and a deeper movement analysis.

From graphical point of view, Horses doesn't look bad but there is some room for improvements too. While a 2D graphic engine is perfectly fine for a puzzle game, from my point of view, a 2.5D graphic engine can transform Horses from a very good game into a simply outstanding game.

Why is Horses famous?

Horses is famous because it is an interesting puzzle game which successfully combines logical elements with strategy, thinking and some chess rules (pieces movement).
