FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
Allen Choong Chieng Hoon: I would like to spend more times on open source development. One of my interests is game development.
FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for JPrayer Clock? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Allen Choong Chieng Hoon: I started writing JPrayer Clock in May 2010, by porting from Prayer Clock (C++ version). The inspiration of developing JPrayer Clock is to solve my personal needs, that is to spend sometimes for rest and say a prayer when using computer. Java version is developed so that I can run my program on other OSes besides Windows. I plan to develop new software, and I will also enhance JPrayer Clock with new features, because JPrayer Clock is not yet completed.
FW Editor: JPrayer Clock was re-written after Prayer Clock using JAVA language. Why?
Allen Choong Chieng Hoon: I like C and C++. But I still want to learn something new, then I choose Java, because it is WORA (write once, run anywhere). And I think Java version is easier for me to port JPrayer Clock to mobile.
FW Editor: Is there any difference between JPrayer Clock and Prayer Clock?
Allen Choong Chieng Hoon: For the feature aspect, both are same. For the programming aspect, they are different.
FW Editor: Do you plan to improve JPrayer Clock? If yes, how are you going to do that?
Allen Choong Chieng Hoon: Yes, I plan to improve JPrayer Clock. I would like to add the Rich Text Format on the prayers. If possible, I will add feature to allow the users customize their prayers. Currently, the users can only customize the prayers by editing the XML file.
FW Editor: Why will you recommend JPrayer Clock?
Allen Choong Chieng Hoon: Sometimes, we spend too much time on the computer. For the physical good, we should rest a while. For the spiritual good, we can say a prayer. Thus, JPrayer Clock can remind us to rest and pray.
FW Editor: How can you describe JPrayer Clock in just a few words?
Allen Choong Chieng Hoon: Simple but useful in my daily life.
FW Editor: What is your favorite JPrayer Clock feature and why?
Allen Choong Chieng Hoon: My favorite JPrayer Clock feature is also the main purpose of JPrayer Clock when I wrote it, that is to show the prayer at specific time, and change the prayers according to the seasons of the Church.
FW Editor: Thank you for this interview. We are looking forward to see the evolution of JPrayer Clock.
Allen Choong Chieng Hoon: I would also like to thank you for the award. Thanks.
