FW Editor: Hello! We tried StNotepad and StNotepad Touch and we were impressed. Are you working alone or as a team?
Ananda Doddagatte: I am developing applications alone. However my friends and cousins are helping me in websites and technical help.
FW Editor: When we were surfing your site we could see that these 2 are not the only programs that you have developed. What can you tell us more about your work?
Ananda Doddagatte: I worked most of the time on designing UI for Windows applications. Had strong desire to develop something exceptional, as an individual developer started developing StForms since end of 2008. Developed "StForm" its a semitransparent form with opaque controls for Dotnet Windows Applications. Followed by "StPlayer" its a simple media player with semitransparent interface, now this also supports multi-touch gestures. Later I have developed "StNotepad" its a notepad replacement with semitransparent background and opaque text, intended to help in typing the non-copyable text by placing that in the background. I have enhanced that text editor with Multi-touch gestures for most of the basic text editing functions, called "StNotepad Touch".
FW Editor: Why did you decide to build the first StNotepad? Where did you find motivation for developing such a nice program?
Ananda Doddagatte: Usually I like to be distinct, all the gadgets I used from childhood up to now are explicit. I was getting them unfortunately, later I tried to get different stuffs. Then it continued to distinct software it created passion in me to develop applications for my own. Usually I use notepad for most of the things, so I started developing StNotepad but got struck in the middle. So, I started working on my audio and video player called StPlayer, while developing this I got the fix for StNotepad problem then I continued developing that.
FW Editor: Is there any difference between StNotepad and StNotepad Touch besides the obvious touch feature?
Ananda Doddagatte: Except multi-touch gestures there is no difference between StNotpead and StNotepad Touch. While using StNotepad on my tablet pc in tablet mode, I found tiresome to edit text. To carry out simple editing functions I have to open onscreen keyboard very often, and I found it troublesome. So, I come up with StNotepad Touch for tablet and slate pcs.
FW Editor: Is StNotepad Touch compatible with Android OS or iPhones/iPads?
Ananda Doddagatte: No, my applications are not compatible with Android OS and iPhones. I am interested to port them, if I get time and the hardware.
FW Editor: What can you tell us about the File content modified notification? How does it work? Also, what can you tell us more about the Circular menu feature?
Ananda Doddagatte: Several times I lost the typed text from the built in notepad if many instances of text editors opened for the same file. I have used a FileWatcher for the opened files in StNotepad. A messagebox will appear when the StNotepad gets focus and the opened files in has modified outside.
I found difficulty while selecting the menu items by finger touch, I increased the menu height but still I was not satisfied. Hence I decided to develop a new menu.
FW Editor: Are you still planning on developing more software in the future? Can you tell us a secret about your future work?
Ananda Doddagatte: Yes, I am going to develop more software for my daily use on my tablet pc.
