FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
Arkadiusz Kołacz: To go on some Vacations, this was a hard year for me ;)
FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for Robboid? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Arkadiusz Kołacz: Somewhere in 1997/1998... Actually it wasn't Robboid yet, but rather small Windows version of Robbo. I've never published that game, but graphics and some new elements (which are not yet visible in Robboid) come from that game. My work on Robboid itself started in April 2010 and first version became available in early May the same year. I'm developing my games in my spare time only.
Inspiration? I liked Robbo and wanted to play it again ;). Its great game to play in bus or train, Android is a great platform for such games. I like to think that I'm saving good old games for new generations.
I have a lot of plans. My work on Robboid is not finished yet. A lot of new levels will appear in the game soon (as new level-sets). I have also a plan to prepare "Community Edition", which will contain editor and allow people to exchange their levels. The same about "Boulders and Diamonds".
FW Editor: I must ask this: are you a fan of the original Robbo game?
Arkadiusz Kołacz: Yes. I cannot count how many hours I've spend playing Robbo as teenager. I think this is one of the best games ever made. Janusz Pelc made a great work.
FW Editor: What was the first application you created and when?
Arkadiusz Kołacz: Somewhere about 1989, I was 9 yers old. It was a Mathematical game for Atari XL/XE written in Atari Basic.
FW Editor: Can you tell us more about Robboid? It has any levels from the original Robbo game?
Arkadiusz Kołacz: Yes. Currently all levels come from original game, but it will change soon when more levels will appear in game.
FW Editor: Besides Robboid, is there any application that had a positive impact over you? Why?
Arkadiusz Kołacz: I'm using computers for more than 20 years now. It's very hard to decide which applications were most important for me, there was to many of them. I like old, classic, simple games like BolderDash. I think modern games with amazing 3D graphics lost something, what we can find in these old games.
FW Editor: How can you describe Robboid in one single word?
Arkadiusz Kołacz: Classic ;)
FW Editor: Now, to end our small interview, is there any message you would like to send to Robboid users?
Arkadiusz Kołacz: Don't give up to early. All levels are possible to beat. I hate when people give one start to game just because they don't know how to beat some level... Please don't do that.
