FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
Chinson: In the next half-year, in addition to continuing to improve Compare++, we plan to do some marketing promotion and seek investment or OEM integration opportunities for cooperation. We hope that through our efforts, Compare++ can grow into one of top ten file comparison products.
FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for Compare++? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Chinson: In the end of 2008, we start developing Compare++ after careful research.
As software developers, just like everyone else, before checking in source code to version control system, we always need to compare and merge source file between different versions. But also we often need to compare two methods and to check which methods were changed. Unfortunately, using other tools, they can't completely meet our needs. Therefore, we decided to develop Compare++, which should accurately understand code structures, not just highlight syntax.
Currently, we focus on improving Compare++. In future, We also plan to develop some other cool Programming aids.
FW Editor: What is the most important feature of Compare++?
Chinson: The most important feature is to compare source code by using structured comparison algorithm.
That's to say, after parsing by Compare++, source file is no longer as a whole line-by-line text, but rather is composed of multiple independent structures such as methods, classes and so on. When comparing, Compare++ first aligns and then compares every structure.
Nearly all cool features of Compare++ such as quickly comparing two methods are derived by the core feature. According to some user feedbacks, these features are very useful. So, the core feature is very important and is one of our useful innovations.
FW Editor: Is there anything you would like to change in Compare++? There are some extra features that you may like to have? Is there anything that is not working as intended and you are planning to remove it?
Chinson: Yes. For example, we plan to add more compare and display options. Using these options, users can get some customized features. And we plan to improve quick merge button to make it more user-friendly.
Besides, some new features will be gradually added such as Visual Studio Compare Addin, Binary Comparison.
For all features, we always improve them to make it more meet user needs, so up to now, no feature needs to remove.
FW Editor: Do you plan to improve Compare++ in the future? If yes, what shall we expect from the next Compare++ version?
Chinson: Yes. In the coming version, Compare++ will support more programming languages and scripts such as Java, Objective C and even XML, PHP, etc.
FW Editor: What are the advantages of using Compare++ over any other similar product?
Chinson: Compared to other similar products, Compare++ has some advantages as follow:
Quickly compare any two sections or line ranges;
Align similar sections such as methods, interfaces;
Provide a Function View to review all section changes;
Provide a Quick merge button which can follow the mouse position;
Customizable color options permit to set different colors for two sides;
Display system icons according to file type when comparing directories;
Quick browse HTML and Text report with combined or side-by-side view;
One step to merge multiple differences.
FW Editor: How can you describe Compare++ in just a few words? Why?
Chinson: Compare++ is a true code-oriented file comparison tool tailored just for programmers.
The reason is that Compare++ understands source code more and has many unique features for programmers.
FW Editor: Do you offer any special discounts for those who are purchasing multiple Compare++ licenses?
Chinson: Yes.
Quantity discounts can be available. And if customer purchases multiple multi-year licenses, he will get more discounts. In addition, for some big company users, we also provide a company license without quantity limitation.
For all licenses, we promise an unconditional 30-day money-back guarantee.
FW Editor: Now, to end our small interview, is there any message you would like to send to Compare++ users?
Chinson: First, thank you for using Compare++. We hope it can be a "small dessert" for you and make your programming process more Comfortable.
And then, if you have any suggestion, we'll be appreciated if you could send your feedback to us. For all your help, you will have opportunity to get a single-year license for completely free.
Finally, thanks FamousWhy for the interview opportunity.
