FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives for the near future?
Daisuke Morita: Nothing specially. I'd like to improve Piggydb for the time being. It's not completed at all.
FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for Piggydb? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Daisuke Morita: I released the first version of Piggydb on August 27, 2008. There were no specific applications that inspired me to create Piggydb. But I've been familiar with object-oriented programming and wiki applications. I think that's the background of the Piggydb concept. I have some ideas for new software project, but I'd like to put the effort on Piggydb for the time being.
FW Editor: Which is your favorite Piggydb feature? What do you love the most at Piggydb?
Daisuke Morita: Currently, my favorite feature is the fragment tree view, which has been improved recently (you can record sub-fragments with drag and drop, and collapse and expand the tree for unlimited depth). I love Piggydb because it has power and simplicity in the same package.
FW Editor: What new features and tools should we expect from Piggydb in the future?
Daisuke Morita: Currently, I'm working on improving the fragment views, and the next plan is to improve the editing features to allow users to input and update fragments more comfortably. As a long term plan, there are two things I want to do: extend the core model (the fragment network and hierarchical tags) to be more expressive, and improve the application architecture to be more extensible for third party applications.
FW Editor: Piggydb is a great application and personally I love it. However, there are still many people who prefer to use similar software. What can you tell to convince them that Piggydb is better?
Daisuke Morita: Many of applications which are similar to Piggydb put the focus on input-and-search features, but Piggydb's focuses on the process of organizing information. I think that it's more like a modeling tool rather than a database. The main theme of Piggydb is to help users to learn new concepts or elaborate their ideas.
FW Editor: Do you offer any special advantage for Piggydb users? (I mean free customer support service, free updates, promotional packages, etc)
Daisuke Morita: Piggydb is an open source and free software.
FW Editor: One last question: Would you like to send a message for Piggydb users?
Daisuke Morita: Piggydb is updated frequently. So please check back often ;-)
