FW Editor: What inspired you the most in developing FotoSketcher?
David THOIRON: I have always liked old lithographs (like this one for instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PhiladelphiaPresidentsHouse.jpg) and pencil sketches. Since I could not draw well I decided to write a program that could. That's how the very first version of FotoSketcher came to life in late 2007.

FW Editor: FotoSketcher supports a limited number of image formats (BMP, JPG and JPEG). Do you plan to add more formats in the future?
David THOIRON: Yes! In fact, you will find that the latest version (1.98 at this time of writing) supports PNG files also.

FW Editor: We tested FotoSketcher here at Famouswhy.com and I must say that FotoSketcher is an impressive product. It was hard to develop such a complex application?
David THOIRON: Thank you. Programming is just a hobby for me, but I've been doing it for fun since I was a teenager and I really enjoy experimenting on new algorithms for FotoSketcher. Sometimes, it is indeed hard, but it's always a fun challenge. I have bought three or four books on Digital Image Processing and I'm still learning new tricks.

FW Editor: Many graphical editors are quite expensive while FotoSketcher is completely free (a donations system is up however). Why?
David THOIRON: I'm basically just a nice guy (laugh). FotoSketcher is a hobby for me and if I started charging for it I would have to work much harder at it. In the future I might charge for a more advanced Pro version, but I want FotoSketcher to remain free for most users.

FW Editor: How can you describe FotoSketcher in one single word?

FW Editor: At this point, FotoSketcher allows modifications on one image at a time. Do you plan to change that and implement a
David THOIRON: FotoSketcher already supports a batch mode. In the file menu it's called 'batch processing' (CTRL-B).

FW Editor: Is there anything you would like to add about FotoSketcher?
