FW Editor: Can you tell us a few things about yourself? What generated this passion for programming?
David Torne: I am a computer engineer from Autonomous University of Barcelona.
Fascinated with the power of mathematics I realized that computers could exploit the most powerful ideas into reality. Joined with the plain joy of programming definitely the real results I obtain is what I passion the most.
FW Editor: We encountered several problems with GT Text during testing on a Windows XP with SP 3 operating system. Is that a known bug or a simple random situation?
David Torne: It is a known bug related with incompatible versions of the libraries. That will be fixed on the coming update. I
FW Editor: What are the differences between Pixel Selection and Region Selection tools?
David Torne: Pixel Selection makes it possible to manually select exactly the pixels you want thanks to a marker pointer that can be adjusted from 1 pixel to 80 pixels of width.
Region Selection selects automatically those pixels that most connect to the pixel selected, making possible to select regions that are from one character or even the whole text.
The difference is that Pixel Selection selects the exact pixels or deletes them based only on the user point of selection while Region Selection works more related with the image own properties and colors to make that selection.
Probably if you want full control of the selection you use Pixel Selection but if you want a very fast semi-automatic choice, you rely on Region Selection.
FW Editor: How can GT Text identify and remove a text from color images?
David Torne: That is a good question that is not the first time that has been asked. Definitely right now you can export the selected regions into a new image, hence exporting with the inverse also the background if desired. For what I have been requested, though, I notice there is some interest in keep the same image as it had never had text.
That is a feature I also would love to see, so you can count it will be worked for most coming releases.
FW Editor: What are your plans for the future? Do you plan to continue developing GT Text or are you going to focus on new applications?
David Torne: I would keep exploring the ability of GT Text to become a real good color text selector and manipulator, definitely useful for a lot of fields.
There is no doubt that certain projects that have been incubating will see the light in a few months.
About the details, probably will be related with machine learning projects.
FW Editor: Thank you for this short interview and good luck with your future developments.
David Torne: Thank you!
