FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
John Milner: I have many ideas for innovative audio and MIDI software for both Mac and iPhone. My next project for the iPhone is a 3D spatial surround sound MIDI controller.
FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for PowerSaveUPS? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
John Milner: I run a ProTools Recording Studio, which is protected from power failure by an APC UPS System. The available software for Mac was very basic - so I decided then to write my own - which is how PowerSaveUPS came into being.
FW Editor: What is your favorite PowerSaveUPS feature? Why?
John Milner: The ability to write your own AppleScripts, which are executed when the UPS battery level reaches Soft Shutdown Threshold. This means that you can save your work as 'PowerSaveUPS' time-stamped Backups.
FW Editor: Can you tell us more about this feature? How does it works and why it is so important in the overall PowerSaveUPS structure?
John Milner: Rather than just save your work as the existing file name, PowerSaveUPS saves the file as a PowerSaveUPSBU file with date and time appended. This means that if you have made changes to your work that you don't want to keep, you can reload the original file. If you do want to keep the changes, you can load the PowerSaveUPSBU file...
FW Editor: What is the main difference between Soft and Hard Shutdowns?
John Milner: A Soft Shutdown occurs when the Soft Shutdown Threshold (SST) is reached. The SST scripts run (one of which is a soft (graceful) shutdown script) at this point. Both SST and HST (Hard Shutdown Threshold) are assigned by the User.
If for any reason Soft Shutdown does not occur (this might be because of an open dialog box, for example) then as a last resort, Hard Shutdown is performed when the HST is reached. If your scripts are well-written though, this should never occur!
FW Editor: What are the advantages of using PowerSaveUPS over any other similar product?
John Milner: No other Mac software that I know of has PowerSaveUPS's features and potential.
FW Editor: Is there any customer support service for PowerSaveUPS users?
John Milner: Absolutely - support@powersaveups.com
FW Editor: Do you have any message or anything to share with PowerSaveUPS users?
John Milner: Thanks for your support so far, and keep on downloading the free software updates!
