FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
Mannie Tagarira: I am going to finish university, for starters... I am still uncertain as to where I want to be and what I want to be doing in a few years, but one this is for certain; I will still be developing software, be it for a living or in my spare time.
FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for Smart-Organise Folders? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Mannie Tagarira: I started writing the code towards the close of October 2009, during my studies. My inspiration would have to be the frustrations of having to deal with a really messy downloads folder. Initially, the idea was just to create a simple script that I could run every once in a while to help keep my downloads folder manageable; as I scripted away, it dawned on me that I would eventually need to run this script on a day to day basis. This would become tedious; I needed something automated, hence the folder actions.
I realised that I could reuse the code from the script in different ways to carry out different tasks. I ended up with a set of "tools" (if you will) that I decided to call "Smart-Organise Folders" for no special reason. "Smart-Organise Folders" is a word too long for my liking so I tend to just got with "Smart-Organise".
I do plan on developing new software, *but*, I do have to concentrate on my studies first, so this may not be for a while...
FW Editor: Smart-Organise Folders is one of the best folders management applications for Mac OS X platforms. What is the secret?
Mannie Tagarira: Flatter much!?! Thank you, I am grateful that you think so :-) Secret??? I don't think there is one; if there were a secret, the first thing I would do would be to write a book about it ;-)
FW Editor: Do you plan to improve or change Smart-Organise Folders in any way? If yes, how are you going to do that?
Mannie Tagarira: Indeed, I do plan on making some improvements. An important feature I *would like to add* to Smart-Organise is the ability to collect related/similar files based on a fragment of the file name. This would strongly compliment the "Collect Similar Files" service, but as I have already mentioned, this may not be for some time. So, no promises...
FW Editor: Do you plan to release a Windows version of this software? If yes, when shall we expect that?
Mannie Tagarira: No I will not be releasing a Windows nor a Linux version; sorry folks...
FW Editor: What are the advantages of using Smart-Organise Folders over any other similar product?
Mannie Tagarira: It's free...??? I am not too sure as to how I should respond to that question if I were to be quite honest. What prompted me to even consider writing Smart-Organise was the lack of free software to do such simple day to day tasks that make life so much easier. I am all for improving productivity and getting things done...
FW Editor: Besides Smart-Organise Folders, is there any application that had a positive impact over you? Why?
Mannie Tagarira: Erm, not really, no...
FW Editor: Is there any customer support service for Smart-Organise Folders users?
Mannie Tagarira: There is no dedicated customer service, but I do try to attend to any query users may have.
FW Editor: Do you have any message or anything to share with Smart-Organise Folders users?
Mannie Tagarira: Thank you all for your support, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you for making Smart-Organise what it is.
FW Editor: Thank you for your interview. We are looking forward for more great applications from Emmanuel Tagarira.
Mannie Tagarira: Thank you for taking the time to interview me.
