FW Editor: Fasoft is a new software company. What are your objectives and plans for the near future?
Flavio Antonioli: Our near future objectives are to finish the Mac version of n-Track Studio, which has been in development since the beginning of 2010, and bring it to par in features and stability with the Windows version. After that we'll start working on n-Track 7.
FW Editor: N-Track Studio 6 is your core application. How and when did you start writing the code for N-Track Studio 6?
Flavio Antonioli: Development on the first version of n-Track actually started in 1995. We have been steadily working on improving the program since then. We released version 6.0 in August 2008.
FW Editor: Can you tell us more about Fasoft? When it was created and where?
Flavio Antonioli: FASoft is based in Rome, Italy. It was created in 1995 to support the development of n-Track.
FW Editor: Can you give us more information about your developing team?
Flavio Antonioli: We are currently a group of two developers, with some help from external consultants for effect plugins, graphic and web design. We are looking into expanding our development team in the near future to better support the Mac platform and possibly mobile platforms.
FW Editor: Your product, N-Track Studio 6 must compete against some powerful similar applications. The amazing thing is that N-Track Studio 6 can actually
Flavio Antonioli: We believe that n-Track is a very good product, it has been developed with the constant feedback of the user community, so the program is free from lots of big features that users don't actually use but has all of the core features needed for productive audio recording and mixing.
FW Editor: What is the advantage of using N-Track Studio 6 over any other similar software?
Flavio Antonioli: n-Track is light and easy to install and use. It works on both Windows and Mac, supports VST 2.x and 3.x plugins and instruments, Asio, WDM, WaveRT, CoreAudio audio drivers. The program costs only $64 and you can download the evaluation version for free from www.ntrack.com
FW Editor: What inspired you in creating N-Track Studio 6? Do you have any other favorite application?
Flavio Antonioli: The original version of n-Track was created in 1996 when multitrack audio recording on computers was in its early infancy, there were only a couple of high priced programs that handled a handful of tracks. The fascination with home based audio multitrack recording came from listening to Bruce Springsteen 1982 Nebraska album, which was recorded at home using a 4-track tape deck. I wanted to try to do that with my computer because I couldn't afford a tape multitrack recorder.
FW Editor: Can you tell us more about the core features from N-Track Studio 6? It was hard to create something that complex?
Flavio Antonioli: The core features include the multithreaded audio engine which takes full advantage of modern multi-core CPUs, supports VST plugins and instruments, and Asio, WDM, WaveRT and CoreAudio audio drivers, making the program compatible with virtually any audio device and plugin on the market. Recent versions of the program also feature a very flexible audio routing capabilities which allow to create channel groups and allow a channel (track, group, aux) to be sent to any other audio channel or output device.
FW Editor: Do you plan to improve N-Track Studio 6 or are you going to work on completely new software?
Flavio Antonioli: We are committed to improving and perfecting n-Track to keep the program the best affordable audio recording software on Windows and Mac platforms.
FW Editor: Fasoft is a company that promises a lot. We are looking forward to see more from it in the new future. Thank you for this small interview.
Flavio Antonioli: Thank you, it's been a pleasure.
