FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
Kenneth Rundt: To spend less time writing code and more time writing music.
FW Editor: What inspired you the most in creating SynthFont? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Kenneth Rundt: The lack of any free software of this kind inspired my to begin developing SynthFont in 2002. Currently I'm focused on optimizing. I am right now working on a version optimized for blind users - I call it SynthFontB.
FW Editor: How can you describe SynthFont in just a few words?
Kenneth Rundt: It was designed to be a simple midi file player with a "twist" - you can easily assign different SoundFonts to the 16 midi channels.
FW Editor: Can you tell us more about the core features available in SynthFont?
Kenneth Rundt: The core feature Nr. 1 is the ability to assign SoundFonts - or other similar sound files - to each midi channel and each midi program change separately. Alternatively you can use VST instruments instead. For tweaking the output, adding reverb and compression, you can use VST effects. There are no special hardware requirements.
FW Editor: Which is your favorite SynthFont feature? Why? Is SynthFont the same without it?
Kenneth Rundt: My favorite feature is the core feature Nr. 1 mentioned above. No, SynthFont would not be the same without it.
FW Editor: What are the advantages of using SynthFont over any other similar product?
Kenneth Rundt: Apart from the core feature Nr. 1, SynthFont has been praised for the quality of the sound it produces. This is partly do to the fact that the synthesizer uses 32 bit floating point calculations and very little "shortcuts". Additionally people like the "play to file" feature where SynthFont sends the output directly to a file and not to any audio interface, thus making the process running at top speed.
FW Editor: Is there any customer support service for SynthFont users?
Kenneth Rundt: Customer support service is through email.
FW Editor: Do you have any message or anything to share with SynthFont users?
Kenneth Rundt: Please tell me what you like and dislike! For example, I will release SynthFontB for blind users soon and hope that also users with normal visual abilities will use it and tell me what they think!
