FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
Paul Saunders: I would like to improve the web browsing features and also try to incorporate different stylized editor kits to support markup for different types of content (HTML, XML, etc.).
FW Editor: What was the first application you created and when?
Paul Saunders: I've been developing software applications since 1985. My first application was a COBOL mainframe Customer and Account information system for a bank. I've come a long way since then. :)
FW Editor: What inspired you the most in creating Paul's Editor 2? Do you plan to develop Paul's Editor 3, or are you more focused on optimizing the current version?
Paul Saunders: I was exposed to Java back in 1999 when I helped develop a Java applet for T. Rowe Price. I wanted to learn more about Java, so on my own time I started looking at Sun's Java Tutorials and reading Java World articles to try and learn as much as I could. The editor was created and was evolved from this wanting to teach myself the Java language.
I am constantly adding small features to the editor when I need them in my job. For example, the new utility items to remove end of line characters and to create a comma separated string came from a need to quickly parse and format database query results and use them in additional queries.
I do have plans to improve and add substantial features to the editor, eventually releasing a version 3 sometime next year.
FW Editor: What is your favorite Paul's Editor 2 feature and why?
Paul Saunders: I really like the drag and drop file capabilities of the editor. This made it so much easier to open and edit files quickly.
FW Editor: What are the main advantages of using Paul's Editor 2 over any other similar product?
Paul Saunders: The many features of the editor make it unique among Java editors.
FW Editor: How can you characterize Paul's Editor 2 in a single word? Why?
Paul Saunders: Easy-to-use (not really one word, but close). I believe the editor is simple enough to be used by a novice user, yet contains many easy to use features for the more advanced user.
FW Editor: Are you offering customer support service?
Paul Saunders: Not really. Anyone who has issues is free to contact me about the problem and I will work on fixes going forward, but the editor is something I work on in my free time, so I am not able to provide full time customer support right now.
FW Editor: Is there any message you would like to send to Paul's Editor 2 users?
Paul Saunders: Give me feedback! Let me know what you like and do not like about the editor and why.
