FW Editor: PlayNRip - Video On Demand is a complex audio/video software. Can you tell us more about its most important features?
Mike Adams: The most important features (services) provided by PlayNRip - Video On Demand are as follows:
1) Like millions of people do daily on the NET, PlayNRip Software searches out websites and servers who freely produce links to movies, tv shows, and other media that can be streamed and viewed. It makes the direct media links found at other web sites available to its customers so they do not have to weave through malware and tons of annoying advertisements to stream the media to their PC.
2) The PlayNRip algorithm captures (copies) the HTTP streams (media) as the built-in IE Browser saves the stream in the customer’s Temporary Internet Cache files (created by the IE Browser) on the customer’s computer. This allows the customer to save this IE cache file on their computer permanently by using PlayNRip or AUTOSAVE before the browser clears it after the media stream is completed (played).
3) Players are provided to play back the captured cache files. Also, Players are provided for playing the stream via the built-in Microsoft IE Browser Control.
4) Conversion software is also available to convert captured (PlayNRip) media or other media on the customer’s machine to a plethora of file types including the iPhone MP4 type. An example of use would be to convert a YouTube Music Video (FLV) to an MP4 or MP3 to play on the customer’s iPhone or iPod.
5) The software is dynamically and manually updated weekly (and sometimes daily) with new content in the form of Links to Internet media.
FW Editor: The NET Portal tool allows online movies watching (there is a huge library to choose from). Is that perfectly legal?
Mike Adams: I would NOT say that ALL the media (‘movies’) one ‘finds’ on the Internet is ‘perfectly legal’! Meaning that there are thousands of movies on the NET with intellectual property rights that should NOT have been uploaded to thousands of servers on the Internet. There are NO laws or barriers, except commercials and malware :), to keep a person from browsing the NET and streaming this media through standard tools (IE, Firefox, Opera, etc) to their PC. We did not ask the developers of these browsers (Microsoft, etc) to leave their cache files on OUR machines. Since they did without our permission we can certainly copy these files that THEY cached (‘downloaded’) since there is NO law that says we cannot. There IS a law that says we cannot SELL or DISTRIBUTE (share) this media (files) that have intellectual property rights. PlayNRip Software does NOT ‘download’ and is NOT selling MOVIES or other media. PlayNRip Software only sells software that links to the files on these 3rd party servers. PlayNRip.com does NOT have ANY illegal media with intellectual property rights on its site. ALL media pointed to by PlayNRip – Video On Demand are on OTHER servers. Besides, PlayNRip Software could not afford the bandwidth costs :)
FW Editor: What can you tell us about the video/audio converter?
Mike Adams: See Feature 4 in answer to your 1st question about Features.
FW Editor: PlayNRip - Video On Demand comes with an interesting media player tool. How is that tool different from Windows Media Player for example?
Mike Adams: The video players are standard players used across the net to play back FLV, MP4, and MP3 files that have been streamed to the customer’s PC. There is nothing new here from players you would see on other sites, but PlayNRip Software has added some additional features like PIP (Picture In Picture) to allow moving the video to the right lower corner of the screen allowing you to watch the video and do something else on your machine (like programming which is the way I use it:) ). Also, all efforts have been made to alleviate any distractions when watching the video like the DIM the lights feature to hide the borders and buttons of the application while viewing the video.
FW Editor: NET Portal is an interesting place to watch movies at a good quality. However, the playback options are quite limited. Do you have any plans to add more video options soon?
Mike Adams: I would not say the ‘playback options’ are limited, but as far as the ‘video options’, the software currently (10/25/2010) has a small list of about 30 MP4 (some HD) Links to some very popular current movies with NO ads that is growing as I write this. Of course I have to FIND these links at web sites on the Internet:) More links will be added daily as found. Lately I have spent most of my time making sure the software will work on XP, Vista and Windows 7 platforms (32 bit and 64 bit), which has not been an easy task. Also, I don’t think you tested the megavideo movie playbacks. There are over 250 movie links there and a plethora (in the thousands) of TV show Seasons with direct links that can be played (streamed) and AUTOSAVEd. I just watched 14 straight shows of Fringe the 1st season. I’m hooked:) These megavideo movie links are streamed from the cacaoweb.org Peer to Peer network which eliminates the 72 minute viewing constraint imposed by megavideo.com. The megavideo videos/movies can be AUTOSAVED to your PC after they are cached. As I write, I am in the process of adding over 6400 Movie Links to the software. IMDB.com will be used to describe them and a simple button click to stream them.
FW Editor: Do you have any message for your customers? Is there anything you would like to share with them?
Mike Adams: Well I would like to thank you for your interesting questions. They were fun to answer and will go in PlayNRip – Video on Demand’s FAQ whether you use this interview or not:) Please understand WHY this software is being made available. I am a retired, 65 year old software engineer, with degrees in electronics engineering, software engineering, 20 years as a professional musician, and 4 years of teaching software engineering at a technical school.
That’s why the Permanent License states ‘for the Life Of the product’:) I live alone on social security and my 2 ex-wives have the rest. I wrote this software because I LOVE writing software, plain and simple. AND, I USE and work on PlayNRip – Video On Demand software EVERY DAY. I do not have cable, satellite, etc. I have a computer with broadband Internet and a 32 inch HD TV. And, trust me I DO NOT miss the commercials:) or any movies or shows using this software. The software has been available on the NET since August 2010 and its now 10/25/10 and I have not sold one license. Believe it or not, that is NOT important to me. It’s reasonable since I have limited content right now. The software is leaving Beta2 now meaning that the free trials have shown me errors I have fixed for other operating systems.
But, watch out, Content is about to explode with at least 6400 MORE movie links.
About the legality question: If you are not selling or uploading movies you are NOT breaking the law. I’ll leave YOU with a couple of questions: If you FIND a $100 bill on the street and no one claims it is it yours to keep and spend? If you FIND a movie and watch it on the Internet and keep it on your machine because MICROSOFT left it there who’s breaking the law? Think about it?
