FW Editor: There is a continuous struggle on the MMORPG market. Do you think you can succeed with a independently developed MMORPG like Starport Galactic Empires?
Toonces, Galactic Overlord: I think I can, yes. Hope springs eternal. I'll do the best I can with a small overhead.
FW Editor: How many players are enjoying Starport Galactic Empires? Do you have a statistic with how many accounts are already created?
Toonces, Galactic Overlord: We have about 2,000 players.
FW Editor: The ship control is a bit clumsy. Is there any way to fix that in the future?
Toonces, Galactic Overlord: Starport uses the famous thrust-and-turn style of vehicle handling, popularized by many games before Starport. We don't get many complaints about ship control, actually. You can also use the mouse-controlled auto-pilot.
FW Editor: How big is a Starport Galactic Empires map? How many solar systems are included in one map?
Toonces, Galactic Overlord: It can vary depending on the galaxy you're in. A large galaxy can have up to 1,500 solar systems, and 20-minute Blitzkrieg games have only 5 systems.
FW Editor: How is the upgrading system works? For example, character upgrades are reflected on ship performances as well?
Toonces, Galactic Overlord: New players start out on surprisingly even level with other players but there are some items you can acquire that will increase ship performance.
FW Editor: Developing and maintaining a MMORPG can be extremely costly. How do you plan to support this project if Starport Galactic Empires is completely free?
Toonces, Galactic Overlord: The overhead is to be paid by the players with optional purchases of in-game items.
FW Editor: Every developer must have a source of inspiration, beside his own applications. What is yours? Which application had a positive impact over you?
Toonces, Galactic Overlord: Star Control II and TradeWars 2002
FW Editor: Is there anything you would like to add about Starport Galactic Empires?
Toonces, Galactic Overlord: Thanks for interviewing me
