We decided to bring the power of multi vertical search to every desktop. We made it simple and with a great and easy to use interface. We have 6 great people in our team: Konrad (.net programmer from Munchen, Bavaria, Germany), Annie (designer from Manchester, England), Alex (team coordinator from Isreal, Middle East), Sean (DB master from Ireland), Jake (web master from Sunnyvale, California) and Jill (tester from Sunnyvale, California).

An interview with Alex Vernoster

FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
Alex Vernoster: Our dev team is working on improving the product - even faster translation and definition retrieval and better sharing features. Of course we are polishing out bugs. In a recent survey we did, 89% of the users said the translations were really good. 47% of users said they will recommend Wikitup to friends, and over 80% of the users said that Wikitup is either good or great piece of software. We will be striving to reach 100% on all those metrics, and there is lots of work to do.

FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for Wikitup? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Alex Vernoster: We were frustrated with existing desktop lookup solutions like Babylon, WordWeb and others. They are all either paid, or lack content, or they just sucked. So we decided to unite the power of ctrl+click lookup with the power of free information sources, and also add in multimedia. This is how Wikitup was born. We will be adding more flavors of Wikitup. Here is a sneak peek to some ideas: Wikitup Classic for language learners, and Wikitup Kids for the younger audience

FW Editor: Are you planning to develop a 'pay version' of Wikitup?
Alex Vernoster: No, we believe information must be free

FW Editor: Can you tell me something about the developing team? How did you meet?
Alex Vernoster: We have a small and distributed team (see the About page on our site). We mostly got acquainted on the Internet, but there were a couple of online introductions as well.

FW Editor: Do you plan to expand the team in the near future? Wikitup is already successful and with more and more users, you may need more members in your team to manage that.
Alex Vernoster: I think that currently our team is just the right size. We will be expanding our marketing activities soon, then more people will join.

FW Editor: To end with, do you have any message for Wikitup users?
Alex Vernoster: Seek, and you will find!
