FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
Paul Yip: We’d continue to improve the usability and add new functionalities to Red Koda. Meanwhile, we’re listening from users and see how we can evolution and help them.
FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for Red Koda Community? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Paul Yip: Few years ago, we had a bad experience that spent 20 minutes to draw a sequence diagram. With our previous user experiences in Adobe/Macromedia related tool, we believe we could make something similar for UML. Thus, we started the project Red Koda. The first prototype is finished on 2009 Q1. We focus on optimizing the usability. As a result, users could draw diagram faster with Red Koda now. The Youtube video would show how to create sequence diagram in one minute with the aids of short key keys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faJZudRUo_k.
FW Editor: Red Koda Community is one of the best applications you can use to develop UML projects. What is the secret?
Paul Yip: The main advantage of Red Koda Community against other UML tool is the usability. We want users to focus on building models and not on manipulating the elements on diagrams. Thus, we add many tools like auto align lifeline, auto resize frame and print with page fit etc.
FW Editor: Do you plan to improve or change Red Koda Community in any way? If yes, how are you going to do that?
Paul Yip: One core feature we are adding to Red Koda is code synchronization. The estimated time of release would be on 2010 Q3.
FW Editor: What is the difference between Red Koda Community and Red Koda Commercial?
Paul Yip: The main difference is that Red Koda Community is not for commercial use. For functionalities, it’s equivalent to Red Koda Commercial except a watermark would be shown on print documents.
FW Editor: Can you tell us more about Red Koda Community's core features?
Paul Yip: The core features are it supports drawing 13 types UML2 diagrams could be printed or exported to various graphics format. The unique features are the tools like auto resize and auto align.
FW Editor: Is there any customer support service for Red Koda Community users?
Paul Yip: We always want to listen from different users because Red Koda is made for them. Thus, we set up the Red Koda knowledge base in August. Users are welcome to share the using tips and problems there. The URL is http://www.redkoda.com/forums. Besides, users could email to us directly by support@redkoda.com.
FW Editor: Do you have any message or anything to share with Red Koda Community users?
Paul Yip: We hope Red Koda Community would help users save their time in drawing diagrams. Hence, spent more time on design and making the software flexible.
