FW Editor: Can you tell us more about Robert MacLean? For how many years are you developing programs?
Robert MacLean: I have been doing software development for over 15 years, creating many applications and building many customer solutions. In the last 5 years I have focused on Microsoft technologies. I also am a Microsoft ALM MVP and a Microsoft ALM Ranger.
FW Editor: The new Pull program was just released and it seems like a great little program. Can you tell us more about it?
Robert MacLean: Pull is a lightweight podcast receiever, which sounds very technical. What it does it allows you to subscribe to a website and get podcasts or videos that they publish to be downloaded easily to your computer.
FW Editor: How much time have you put into developing Pull? Are you proud of your work?
Robert MacLean: I have been developing Pull in my free time since June 2010, when it started as something I wanted personally and now is used by many people. I am very proud of it.
FW Editor: Can you tell us more about the 'locking' feature of Pull? Not many programs have that feature, so Pull is part of a select group.
Robert MacLean: The locking feature allows you to "lock" a podcast. This is means that you can not delete or remove it. I find it is very useful for keeping favorite podcasts and easily deleting all the other ones.
FW Editor: How hard was it to develop the 'import/export to OPML' function?
Robert MacLean: Development of the import/export to OPML was initially very easy, thanks to the great suppport for XML that .NET provides. However getting the OPML to validate was tougher as there a lot of edge cases to deal with. It also got an overhaul in the October 2010 release (we try to release monthly) so that you could selectively import/export feeds rather than having to do them all.
FW Editor: Are you planning to change anything in Pull for the next versions? The UI will improve?
Robert MacLean: The December 2010 release is just around the corner and the UI has had a major polish so it looks a lot better, and we are planning even more for the January release. The December also contains a major improvement to the internals so it can now deal with far more feeds and websites, even if they contain errors.
FW Editor: Is there anything more you would like to add about Pull or any other of your software?
Robert MacLean: I would ask people to try it and give feedback on it! We take all feedback into account and 99% of all requests from the community have been included!
