FW Editor: Not many MMORPG are free and almost none has an Open Source. Why did you make this happen?
Rodney Miller PCA (a.k.a. life): With todays economy everyone needs a release and not everyone can afford entertainment in their budget. At times there are players whom donate when they have it to offset the costs or to make improvements. Currently we have three players that we are aware of paying for advertisements to bring more players. This is something they have decided to do on their own and receive no special privileges in DigOurGame. I am also a firm believer that once a mmorpg takes off it is the players who really make the game. No one truly owns it so in turn no one truly has a right to charge for it.
I am a strong endorser of open source. I believe without open source todays technology would not be where it is. Every current piece of software has a flaw and somewhere in the world is a person that can fix that flaw and is willing to do so given the opportunity. Open source is also a great way to learn programing and to build from that knowledge another idea.
DigOurGame was built from an open source, is improved with open source, and in turn will be open source for others to learn from and produce with.
FW Editor: The game still has some minor bugs. Are you planning to keep making it better and better?
Rodney Miller PCA (a.k.a. life): Yes. Currently we have version 1.6 in development which has an improved user interface, a few bug fixes, and another area being added. Once we release an update we have a forum for feedback. As soon as we get feedback we begin working on the next release.
FW Editor: At the moment you have 3 rooms where players can live a fantastic life, away from any problems. A 4th room is in your plans for the near future?
Rodney Miller PCA (a.k.a. life): If you mean the areas yes. Currently we have three open, one new area in testing, with three more in planning after that. We want DigOurGame to be enjoyable to all so we understand that each member of the community has different tastes in entertainment and try to gear an area to that taste.
Our first area is Chaos. Based of the Greek god of a primeval state of existence or gaping void from which appeared everything that exists. This area is where members of the community begin. It has a little bit of everything. We feel this is a great theme considering the world started from nothing and the members of the community are just beginning from nothing.
From Chaos came Tartarus. The deep, gloomy place, a pit under Gaia itself where souls are judged and receive punishment. This area I believe follows its theme greatly. It is an underground pit of winding tunnels, demons, and is totally uncensored. Anything can happen.
The third area we released is Gaia. Named after the Greek goddess of earth and life. This area is a more friendlier area and censored for family enjoyment.
This next area we have in testing now is called Eros. Based off the Greek god of love we want to be a nice romantic area for singles to meet and couples to enjoy. This area upon release in version 1.6 will be loaded with gifts to give and even a chapel to wed that special someone.
FW Editor: Is this your first work as this sort? How many users do you have at the moment?
Rodney Miller PCA (a.k.a. life): No. The first mmorpg I was involved with was called WorldOfOurs. It started as a simple fun tool to teach boy scouts about computers, programing, and the Internet. Although it was never intended to go completely public or to even last long it blossomed into a community with over 300 extremely dedicated followers. About five years after it's start I turned it over to one of the most dedicated developer and most loved moderators.
DigOurGame currently has about 350 players to which at least 10 are very dedicated. We are still relatively new and with word spreading I'm predicting that will rise more steadily now.
FW Editor: Do you see yourself in the future capable of making a MMORPG without the Arianne game engine?
Rodney Miller PCA (a.k.a. life): Yes. Currently myself and three other members of the community have a second project going called DigOurGame 2.0. It is very early in its development however it too will also be open source once released.
We do currently take great pride and thanks in the use Arianne game engine. We started using it a little over a year ago and it has improved so much. Their team puts a lot of dedication and pride in its development as well.
FW Editor: Where can people send their opinions and requests for DigOurGame?
Rodney Miller PCA (a.k.a. life): DigOurGame welcomes all feedback and questions through our sites forum http://dog.servegame.org/ our email digourgame@gmail.com and google talk using our email as it's user name.
