FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives in the near future?
Tobias Giesen: I am now completing the new version 5 for Mac, which will be followed by a Linux version. Hopefully the Linux version will offer almost the same feature set as on Windows and Mac. At the same time, I will continue fixing any issues in the Windows version that users report.
FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for Super Flexible File Synchronizer? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Tobias Giesen: It all started in 2003, when my brother needed some replication software for backup purposes, and I myself needed a better tool to regularly sync files on my notebook and main PC. This is my main project, and due to abundant ideas for future versions, I will not likely be able to develop anything else in the foreseeable future.
FW Editor: Super Flexible File Synchronizer is one of the best files synchronization and backup applications from the market. What is the secret?
Tobias Giesen: Over seven years of hard work and continuous, immediate attention to problems that customers have. Most of the program's features have been implemented in response to customer requests. My own creativity has produced some unique problem solutions too, such as the way Filename Encoding preserves timestamps on servers that can't retain them, as well as the new Synthetic Backup features.
FW Editor: Can you tell us more about the Smart Tracking feature?
Tobias Giesen: SmartTracking was added to enable two-way syncs to detect file deletions, as well as conflicts and some other situations. It saves the last file list for the two sides of the synchronization in a database. On the next run, it compares the current file list against the one from the previous run. That way, it can tell if files have been deleted, or if a file has been edited on both sides, which would be a conflict.
FW Editor: Super Flexible File Synchronizer has quite a strong competition but, so far, it succeeded in making a name for itself. What do you think about the huge Super Flexible File Synchronizer success?
Tobias Giesen: Obviously I am extremely happy, and all the time I want to make sure that the success is deserved and that the product stays up to date with the latest challenges. For example by supporting new services, such as Google Docs or Microsoft Azure Storage.
FW Editor: Why are you recommending Super Flexible File Synchronizer over any other similar software?
Tobias Giesen: I do not actually compare the program against other sync or backup tools. However I believe that the software has some unique capabilities, and offers a lot of features and options that you will have a hard time finding anywhere else.
FW Editor: Is there any customer support service for Super Flexible File Synchronizer users?
Tobias Giesen: Yes, email support is free, and in most cases, the response time is extremely short. We also have a forum. You will find the most current details and links on our technical support on the Documentation page on our web site.
FW Editor: Do you have any message or anything to share with Super Flexible File Synchronizer users?
Tobias Giesen: The product's success depends largely on our customers recommending it. I would like to say thanks for the many recommendations I know are being made every day, and also ask you to spread the word further. In case of problems, please contact me by email (info@superflexible.com).
