FW Editor: How long have you worked on Profiler MP3i? Are you still working on making updates of some kind?
Ralf Schlegel: I started programming ProFiler as a VB6 program in the beginning of 2002 - just for myself and published it on the net in 2005 with a great feedback. The feedbacks drive me to go on in developing this tool. Updates with bugfixes and new functions (often ideas by the users) are still available nearly every month!

FW Editor: Not many programs can manage music and photographs also. How did you come up with the idea?
Ralf Schlegel: That's precisely the reason! To work on your PC with music, pictures and photos (most users do so) you need a lot of programs! Also you need a screen capture programm, a zipper and so on. For every program you have to lear, how to use it. ProFiler is the idea to do all these basic things directly in the Explorer, that's why ProFiler looks like it and the operation is completely cloned!

FW Editor: Can you tell us more about how the recording from internet radio function works? Haven't seen that in many programs.
Ralf Schlegel: ProFiler converts the stream of the station directly into mp3, most streams contains also information about the current playing title and the url of the stations homepage. ProFiler extract these informations to create the mp3 tag informations while recording and to show it the user on the screen (even as balloon tip, if ProFiler is minimized).

FW Editor: What can you tell us more about the date and time manipulation of files? Again, this is not available in many programs.
Ralf Schlegel: I need this function especially for photos. I prefere sorting photo files by date - not by name! So the created time should by the time when I took the photo. If I copy this file on (e.g.) an external harddisk the creation time is the time of copy, not the time of 'creating' the photo! The MS Explorer doesn't support a date / time manipulation in batch, so ProFiler got a new task... This can be used automatically in the picture database dialog. Open it and klick on the 'View' button of the toolbar: the view mode changes from 'file system' to 'time system'. Now drag and drop a picture from the right side to the left time tree - the created date of the file will change to the selected month and year! So find you photos of hollyday in juli 2010! Don't search in the folders - just search in the time tree! If you've found it, mark a thumb nail with the right mouse button and choose from context menu: 'Open ProFiler here', or double click it for editing, or press 'Print' from toolbar, or what else...

FW Editor: Would you like to elaborate on the snapshot function? How does it work? Who should use it?
Ralf Schlegel: Some people need screen shots for documentation (so do I) at work. The problem is: there are a lot of tools on the net, which can do so, but: user defined snapshots are always done by mouse. Now please try to make a snapshot of exactely 328x124 pixels!... With ProFiler you can create a rectangle with nearly this size, then leave the mouse without klicking and use the cursor keys pixel by pixel. ProFiler shows you the size of the selected area (other programs don't do that). Hold the Shift key down to move the area, hold the Ctrl key down to move or resize the area in 10 pixels step, press 'Enter' if you have finished. This information is also given in the Online help! Open the Screenshot dialog and press [F1]... Did you know: when ever you press [F1], you'll get exactely the context help of the selected dialog or object!

FW Editor: Your program is now available only for Windows users. If it will be a great hit, will you think about making some changes so it can run on Macs too?
Ralf Schlegel: No, never! I think Mac user live in another world of PC systems! They don't need this kind of tool and they won't use it...
