An interview with Vitalie Vrabie

FW Editor: What are your plans or objectives for the near future?
Vitalie Vrabie: Have fun during the summer, promote the product, collect user feedback, prioritize it, then get back to work and implement the priorities.

FW Editor: How and when did you start writing the code for Daihinia WiFi Relay? What inspired you the most? Do you plan to develop new software, or are you more focused on optimizing the current ones?
Vitalie Vrabie: It was back in the summer of 2006. The idea to put mesh netwiorking functionality directly onto user computers seemed nice. So i sat down...

FW Editor: From your point of view, which is the strongest Daihinia WiFi Relay feature? Why?
Vitalie Vrabie: Lol. In fact, the whole Daihinia is one single feature - multihop packet forwarding on top of Ad-Hoc Mode of WiFi. All the rest are simple things that make it easier for the average user to deal with installing the driver and binding it to the wifi adapter.

FW Editor: How do you intend to improve Daihinia WiFi Relay in the future? Should we expect new features or a new interface?
Vitalie Vrabie: The next thing I've already implemented is programmatical creation of the Ad-Hoc SSID. Currently the user has to carefully follow some steps in the User's Guide and create the Ad-Hoc SSID manually. I want to make this task as easy as clicking a button in the Control App. It is documented to be possible on Vista and Win7. However, due to a bug on behalf of Microsoft, those APIs do not want to store the created SSID in the Networks Inventory. As soon as Microsoft fixes the bug I will release a new version.

FW Editor: What is the difference between Daihinia WiFi Relay and common software which allows Mesh topology?
Vitalie Vrabie: What do you mean by "common"? Can you name at least one?

FW Editor: Do you accept user's feedback (ideas, possible bugs they found, suggestions, etc.)?
Vitalie Vrabie: Of course! I've set up a users' forum on daihinia.com and any willing user can post there. However, due to high level of accounts registration by spamming bots, I've set the registration to be by invitations only. That means you have to be invited by someone who already has an account there. So, ask your friends for invites and you can set up an account at that community.

FW Editor: How can you describe Daihinia WiFi Relay in one single word? Why?
Vitalie Vrabie: "Interesting". Because it opens some opportunities hardly achieved without.

FW Editor: Is it possible to upgrade an old Daihinia WiFi Relay version to a new one without reinstalling the software?
Vitalie Vrabie: Daihinia is essentially a system driver with all of Windows rules applying to a driver. Of course the user has to uninstall the previous one before installing the new one. The bundled Control Application does this step automatically when the Install Driver button is pressed.

FW Editor: To end with, is there any message you would like to send to the Daihinia WiFi Relay users?
Vitalie Vrabie: Don't be shy to ask for invitations and join the forum community!
