FamousWhy Editor:
Teleport Pro is an all-purpose high-speed tool for getting data from the Internet that works great as an offline browser.
To use Teleport, you create a project file that contains one or more addresses to files on the Internet. But first, you must define what you intend to do with Teleport:
- create a browsable copy of a website on your hard drive;
- duplicate a website, including subdirectory structure- you can select how deeply would you like Teleport to explore- up to x clicks from its starting point;
- search a website for files of a certain type;
- explore every site linked from a central site;
- retrieve one or more files at known addresses;
- search a website for keywords.
Once activated, Teleport will read your project's starting addresses and retrieve any files that it finds there. It then reads all of the links on that page, follows those links, gets the files on those pages, and so on.
One of the greatest features of Teleport Pro is that you can use it to create a local copy of a complete website on your hard drive, allowing you to "offline browse" the site later. This is done by simply creating a new project using the New Project Wizard, and selecting the first type of project, "Create a browsable copy of a website on my hard drive."
The New Project Wizard will ask you for the starting address of the website, and then whether you want to copy only text (html) files, or also graphics and sound files. When you've finished creating and saving the new project, just press the Start button on the toolbar to run the project. When the project is complete, open the first web page by right-clicking it in the Project Map to display the file context menu, and then select the Open. Teleport will open the page in your default browser, and you can then browse the site offline.
You can select only to retrieve certain types of files, and to follow only certain types of links. For example, you may direct it to retrieve only *.jpg and *.gif files. You may also direct it to follow only links within the same domain as the starting address, and even set its "depth" of search.
Teleport Pro can launch up to ten simultaneous retrieval threads, access password-protected sites, filter files by size and type, search for keywords, and much more.
Teleport Pro is capable of reading all variants of HTML 4.0, CSS 2.0, and DHTML, being the only webspider that really finds all of the files on all of the sites.
You can schedule a project to run at any time on any connection. You can even schedule projects to run in sequence, each new project beginning when the previous one finishes!
